What Is It?
The word “Reiki” (pronounced ‘ray-kee’), means universal life energy. There is endless and enormous energy all around us. It is universal. It can stem from the sun, the moon, and the stars. It is the same source of energy that makes plants grow, the birds fly, etc. And when a human being has pain, problems, he or she can draw from it. It is an ethereal source, a wave length of great power which can revitalize us and restore harmony in our lives.
Reiki, acupuncture, tai chi, and yoga are all centered around the idea of a biofield. They work to restore its balance through pressure, movement, or breathing. Reiki is an ancient healing art that was first practiced in 1922 by Mikao Usui, a Japanese Buddhist. The practice eventually spread to the western world and morphed into what is known today as “Western Reiki”.
Reiki sessions can be done in person or long distance. For example, if you reside in another State, or another part of the world, you would still be able to receive a Reiki healing transmission from me as if you were in my office.
If we are doing a long distance session, the only requirement is for you to find a quiet space during our specified session time. You can lay on a couch or bed, or sit on a chair. After the session you and I will get an opportunity to chat about how you are feeling. Long distance Reiki sessions are just as impactful as in-person sessions, but they allow for the convenience of receiving Reiki wherever you find yourself in geographically.
How Can It Help?
To ease physical pain or discomfort...
If you're looking for a natural way to relieve pain, ease stress, or help your body heal, Reiki may be an option. Reiki may help ease:
- Sleep problems
- Eliminate migraines and other headaches
- Chronic fatigue syndrome
- Disorders that affect your brain, like Parkinson's or Huntington's disease
For emotional wellness and growth...
At an emotional level Reiki:
I have had Reiki sessions with students right before or after exams, in order to calm their nerves and anxiety. I have also had clients managing serious illness who sought out Reiki healing, as part of their traditional medical protocol. Indeed, individuals from all walks of life can benefit from Reiki healing.
Reiki can be used on domestic pets and animals...
The same life force that resides in humans resides in pets. It is no wonder then that many pets (including farm animals, like my horse Cricket, shown here) respond so positively to Reiki energy healing. The benefits of Reiki are physical and psychological. It may relieve tension and alleviate fears, giving your dog a sense of peace. Reiki is also known to aid in the body’s natural healing process, allowing your pet to recover quickly, whether it be from a behavioral disorder, injury, or arthritis. It is obviously not meant to replace medical care. However, Reiki offers a non-invasive second line of defense for your pet’s recovery from illness.
What Others Are Saying...
An effective alternative healing modality...
Although Reiki (like other natural healing modalities, such as chiropractic care, homeopathy and acupuncture) is not officially recognized by the American Medical Association, it is gaining wider acceptance within the medical establishment as an effective alternative healing modality. More and more hospitals are incorporating it into their roster of patient services, often with their own Reiki-trained physicians, nurses and support staff.
Reiki was used in hospital operating rooms as early as the mid-90’s. Since then, its acceptance in medicine has grown. It is now listed in a nursing ‘scope and standards of practice’ publication as an accepted form of care. A 2008 USA Today article reported that in 2007 15% of U.S. hospitals (over 800) offered Reiki as a regular part of patient services. In the hospital setting Reiki is presented as a technique which reduces stress and promotes relaxation, thereby enhancing the body’s natural ability to heal itself.”
There are over 20 studies on the therapeutic value of Reiki. A review of some of these studies can be found by reading, “An Integrative Review of Reiki Touch Therapy Research”, by Anne Vitale, Ph.D. One particular research study at Hartford Hospital in Hartford, Connecticut indicates that Reiki improved patient sleep by 86 percent, reduced pain by 78 percent, reduced nausea by 80 percent, and reduced anxiety during pregnancy by 94 percent.
